bridges of LA county

whenever i write songs on the guitar, i always struggle with coming up with a bridge to a song's structure. i think i feel so locked into a song's verse and chorus that my creature of habit self tries to stave off any change to move towards a bridge.

i don't think a song necessarily needs a bridge. i've always been moved at how the story in bonnie raitt's song, "i can't make you love me" (forgive me, some of you may need your crackers for some cheese here) captured the finality of a dying relationship so simply, yet so accurately. that song has no bridge--only the simple A B A B structure. and what for? a bridge to where when there's no where else to go.
