one vice to another

when i was a caffeine addict in high school, i simultaneously became a nicotine addict. over the years, i would juggle the two vices (in addition to some other vices that i will not mention here. hi ashcroft!)--alternating on which one i relied most from time to time. for instance, if i tried to cut down on coffee, i'd smoke more. when i would try to quit smoking, i drank more coffee. wow. how healthy does that sound? regardless, i think i've nipped both vices in the bud. i can go days without coffee and i haven't purchased a pack of smokes in almost two years! (where's my trophy?) but then...

so get this. for the past few months, i've been obsessed with blogging, reading other people's blogs, writing my own blog, etc. i've realized that the only thing that has distracted me from this latest obsession is now, yet another, obsession: "friendster." in this cyber world, you and your friends--real and imagined--map out your supposed social networks and become cyber voyeurs to other people's favorite books, movies and interests. it's dangerous. what a crying shame if people stop calling their friends, or stop meeting them in person just because you read their most recent profile update... i think i need a new obsession to loosen my grip on this friendster thing... maybe i should take up shooting skeet.
